Why Did You Choose CCA?
I knew I wanted to belong to a small writing program. Before college my writing community was non-existent but I also didn't want to get lost in a sea of other writers, especially while I was learning my craft and who I was as a writer. I visited the Oakland campus first and fell in love with its softness and homey-ness. The faculty came next. And I guess I loved it so much I decided to go back for another 2 years for grad school. No regrets!
Advice for Current Students?
Advice for current students: Experiment!
Now is the time! Get weird! Get it way way wrong. I miss having the space to mess up so royally. I miss having a group of other artists and friends support to help me pinpoint where I can grow from wherever the experiment caved a bit. I miss that dearly.
What's Next for You?
I just got a job writing for an interactive mobile game. I'd love to explore the world of game writing. It excites me. I'm also working on a few screenplays as well as taking on the role of director.
I'm most excited about my podcast This Is Storytelling in which I interview up-and-coming writers and we hear them read one of their short stories or novel excerpts. It's been great to reconnect with my old grad school and undergrad pals and I am excited about speaking with recent grads and current CCA students as well!
