IMPORTANT NOTES & REMINDERS

Submission Best Practices:

  1. Read guidelines carefully - Each publication has specific requirements

  2. Check reading periods - Many journals only accept submissions during certain windows

  3. Simultaneous submissions - Most places allow them, but notify immediately if accepted elsewhere

  4. Reading fees - Many contests charge $20-35; general submissions may be free or require subscription

  5. Response times - Can range from 2 months to 8+ months depending on the publication

Fee Waivers:

  • Many publications offer fee waivers for financial hardship

  • Contact the publication directly or look for fee waiver information on their website

  • Some publications offer reduced fees if you subscribe

Rights:

  • Most publications purchase First North American Serial Rights

  • Rights typically revert to author after publication

  • Always read contracts carefully
