About

Trisha Low is a genre-defying writer whose work explores identity, girlhood, performance, and power. Her hybrid texts blur poetry, theory, and memoir. She holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Performance Studies from New York University. Her groundbreaking books include The Compleat Purge (Kenning Editions, 2013), which examines how fantasy impacts perceptions of feminine identity through narrative and documentary structures, and Socialist Realism (Emily Books, 2019), a genre-defying exploration of heritage, religion, masochism, sexuality, authenticity, and transgressive art that won both the 2019 Believer Book Award for Nonfiction and the 2020 Lambda Literary Award for Bisexual Nonfiction. Her work was featured in Against Expression: An Anthology of Conceptual Writing (2011), edited by Craig Dworkin and Kenneth Goldsmith, positioning her among the leading voices in conceptual and experimental literature. She has also written for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, extending her influence beyond traditional literary venues. Her writing pushes the envelope of contemporary literary forms, engaging with critical theory, pop culture, and personal narrative in ways that illuminate the intersections of identity, language, and power. As a teacher, she guides students toward bold formal experimentation while maintaining rigorous attention to craft and concept, encouraging them to take creative risks and develop unique approaches to storytelling within contemporary experimental literature. She is a recent recipient of a Creative Capital grant.
